Key Marsh Execs Join Beecher Carlson New York

Friday, January 07, 2005 -

ATLANTA, GA

Beecher Carlson Holdings, Inc., today announced the formation of an Executive Liability Practice, anchored by a team of industry experts comprising former Marsh executives Steven Anderson, Jack Flug, John Kerns, Jeff Lattmann and Hank Whiting. They join another former Marsh colleague, Jane Hamilton, to expand Beecher Carlson’s portfolio of quality services into the high-profile lines of management liability products.

“The addition of this group clearly displays Beecher Carlson’s commitment to garner the finest talent in the industry.” According to Tom Golub, President and CEO of Beecher Carlson. “Their track record is unmatched in this specialized arena. We are excited to have them on our team and both our current and future clients will benefit greatly from their expertise and approach.”

The team – which brings more than 120 years of combined experience – will create and develop the world’s premier provider of advisory and transactional services for preventing, mitigating and financing Directors and Officers Liability and related governance risks. In addition, these professionals bring expertise in the areas of Fiduciary Liability, Employment Practices Liability and Crime-related coverages.

While at Marsh, this group was largely responsible for leading the U.S. operations for these specialized liability coverages. Their client base included over 50% of the Fortune 100 and more than 25% of the Fortune 1000. In particular, the team worked extensively with leading companies in the energy, financial institutions, pharmaceutical, retail, technology and telecommunications industries. Each member of the group has been involved in resolving complex coverage matters in situations where financial restatements and corporate governance concerns caused insurance underwriters to consider rescinding or denying coverage for significant claims.

“In looking at the alternatives, Beecher Carlson provided the best platform for our team to participate in culture creation while driving a complete commitment to client focused activities”, said Steven Anderson, Executive Managing Director of Beecher Carlson. “It was quickly apparent to us that Beecher Carlson’s leadership was dedicated to the highest level of speed and service commitment while operating in a flat, non-bureaucratic structure. This was an attracter that we couldn’t pass on.”

The mission of Beecher Carlson’s Executive Liability Practice is to partner with clients in developing advanced risk modeling capabilities to prevent or minimize the impact of Directors and Officers and other management-related claims on shareholder value, employee satisfaction and long-term growth, while at the same time attracting and maintaining quality independent directors.

The addition of this group provides Beecher Carlson complementary talents of claims expertise, sales and marketing, broking and financial modeling capabilities central to the placement and performance of Directors and Officers liability and other management liability products. The Executive Liability Practice will develop a technology platform that enables clients to benefit from real-time and fully transparent access to their program development. It is Beecher Carlson’s commitment that senior leadership within the organization will have direct interaction with accountability for the firm’s clients.

Steven Anderson, an attorney highly experienced in negotiating difficult claim situations and placement strategies, will lead the Executive Liability Practice. Jack Flug, also an attorney with extensive claims experience, will provide product innovation, claims advocacy support and quality assurance. John Kerns will direct the development of risk modeling tools that enable clients to make more informed decisions about financing Directors and Officers risk. Jeff Lattmann will support clients in developing unique strategies for best differentiating themselves with insurance underwriters. Hank Whiting will focus primarily on client development, marketing and placement strategies.
