James H. Stevralia is a partner with Pepper Hamilton LLP in the Tax Practice Group, resident in the New York office. Mr. Stevralia assists major international and domestic private and listed companies with mergers and acquisitions, new venture structuring, and the effective utilization of tax losses and credits.  He also assists clients in federal and state tax audits, state tax board hearings, federal appeals and Tax Court litigation.

Prior to joining Pepper Hamilton, Mr. Stevralia was a partner with the New York firm of Squadron, Ellenoff, Plesent and Sheinfeld which became the New York office of Hogan & Hartson, LLP.  He was an associate and partner.

Mr. Stevralia started his tax career in the Valuation Consulting group at Coopers & Lybrand and initiated the development of a similar practice area at Touche Ross & Co.

Mr. Stevralia received his law degree from Fordham University School of Law (J.D. 1975) and an LL.M. in taxation from NYU in 1979.  He is admitted to practice in New York.

His services have included:
  • acquisition, tax planning and due diligence for major media conglomerates
  • tax planning analysis for the U.S. investments of European conglomerates
  • performing Net operating loss utilization studies and annual limitation analyses under Internal Revenue Code Section 382 for a U.S. affiliate of a French public company
  • preparing testimony and comments to the U.S. Treasury Department and U.S. Congress on legislation proposals
  • counseling U.S. partnerships on Canadian public equity offerings
  • assisting public companies in quarterly tax provision analysis, independent of company auditors
  • assisting in the negotiation of  Industrial Development Authority incentive packages and related compliance with the New York City IDA
  • negotiating and preparing senior executive equity compensation agreements with portfolio companies of major private equity firms
  • serving on Boards of Directors of major specialty engineering and construction company, and a consumer product wholesale commodity supplier.
